Judicial Branch's reputation continues to falter

Despite the announced reforms and campaigns with a focus on morality, a recent poll shows that more than 70 percent of Peruvians do not trust in the power of the judicial branch, an alarming figure that is the highest recorded in the last few years.

Respondents were also questioned about which of several cases best represented the corruption and inefficiency of the judicial branch, an 80% responded without question that it was the (shameless) theft whose victim was the businessman Ernesto Schutz Landázuri. The survey was conducted nationally by the polling company Encuestadores S.A. ENSA.

In the aforementioned case, the judges of the North Cone (Cono Norte - Lima's northern boundaries) stripped Ernesto Schutz Landazuri of his television channel in a scandalous sentence, whose origin pointed directly at the Government Palace, and redesignated the administration of Panamericana Television to the questionable Genaro Delgado Parker.

Another case the respondents remember in terms of the failed interventions of the judicial branch is the unpaid debts of the night club "Utopia." More than three years have passed since the ominous night that 30 young people lost their lives in the club and the family members have yet to receive retribution for their losses.

According to the specialists, a complete reform of the judicial branch will only be possible when the government changes since the judicial branch is currently at the mercy of politics and money.
